Children’s Consignment Sales are Back in Town

| February 13, 2012

Get ready, mamas! It’s time to turn those winter blues into some “green” this spring by shopping and selling at children’s consignment sales.

Has little Max shot up like a beanstalk since last spring? Are Susie’s shorts more “Daisy” than “Duke” this year? Not sure what to do with all the school clothes Jake and Tommy outgrew? Children’s consignment sales are definitely the answer.

The perfect place to score super deals on the brand name children’s clothing and baby gear you love, a consignment sale also is a great place for you to make money by selling the items your kids no longer need. And, with a number of sales already lined up across the Valley, you lucky ladies are in the perfect position to take full advantage of these savvy saving and moneymaking opportunities.

Never consigned before? Don’t worry, it isn’t hard to do. Here are five simple tips to get you started:

#1: Find a Sale - Research your area consignment sales to see which offers the best split to the seller (70 to 80 percent is best), draws significant traffic and has earned kudos from past shoppers. Some sales even offer sellers perks such as early shopping privileges and increased percentage returns.

#2: Gather Your Goodies - Your kids grow. Their clothing doesn’t. Gather up last year’s too-small clothing and shoes and forgotten toys.

#3: Tag & Price Them - Unlike traditional consignment stores, consignment sales require you to price and tag the items you will consign. It’s totally worth your time, as you’ll earn a higher percentage back on the items you sell—consignment stores only offer 30 to 50 percent returns, while sales offer as much as 80 percent! Not sure how to price? Try 1/3 of what you paid at retail or check out the ConsignmentMommies.com Pricing Guide for more help.

#4: Drop Them Off - Once your items are tagged, priced and perfectly presented, load them into your car and drop them off at the sale location. The sale organizer will handle it all from there.

#5: Get Paid - Most sales will mail or direct deposit your check within two weeks of the sale—that’s a quick payday for you!

Here’s a list of upcoming children’s consignment sales in the area. Don’t forget to mark your calendars—you may want to make your way to more than one!
