Passionate Parenting
My grandmother used to say “the best thing a man can do for his children is to love their mother.” So when I sat down to write an article about “passion” (the topic for this month’s Rocket City Bloggers Carnival) I of course thought about my husband. I thought about the reasons I love him, and the things that make our lives passionate. Of course I thought about the obvious: loving eyes, sweet kisses, not to mention his wicked sense of humor that has just the right amount of sarcasm for my taste. But the thing that makes me swoon EVERY time is when I see him with our children. He is a fantastic father, not just because after a long day at work he will lie in the floor and let the kids treat him like a jungle gym, but because of the not so obvious things.
The swoon usually sets in deep when my husband does something sweet and he isn’t even aware that he is doing something amazing. Not to be a cliché here but even the smallest things he does to help out around the house or with the kids so I can have a moment of peace, makes me want to marry him all over again. The small things are amazing, not only because they are helpful, but because I know he knows I had a hard day and I might need a break. The point being, he thought of me and my needs. You see, when we love and respect each other we are both happy and this makes the best environment for raising children.
My husband and I are passionate parents. We give each other our all, but would never put ourselves before the needs of our children. I understand that the most important girl in his life is our daughter, like he understands the most important boy in my life is our son. Our love for each other runs a close second. Our love of God runs above all.
I am by no means a parenting expert. As a matter of fact I am pretty sure one day my daughter will be sitting in a doctor’s office somewhere blaming me for all her troubles. But you know what, I am pretty sure that when you are passionate about your spouse and both of you are passionate about your children, the rest can’t go wrong.

Heather, I think you are absolutely right with your last sentence. What a better world this would be if all children got to watch their parents adore one another. Happy Valentines Day!
